Summary Statement The teacher gives a brief statement of the story in sentences, including the title, author, illustrator, genre, copyright date, and other books by the author. Through asking questions, the students will come to realize the story line, main idea, structure of the book, predictable patterns, etc. If it is a nonfiction book, discuss the nonfiction text features. Ask students to find these words on the various pages using graphophonic clues.
